We have gone even more international! Hailing all the way from Singapore is the band known as ‘Altoduo’.
We were immediately blown away by their strong and controlled rhythmic track. They have clearly been playing together for a while as you can see it shrine to their music. They just released their latest single ‘Insomnia’ they have really got this right. With a track with the perfect mix of rhythmic beats with soothing undertones. With each member having their own spotlight to shine, they are able to use their talent to form such a special collaborative effort. We had the chance to talk to them and ask a few questions about their journey and what their next goal is.
“How long have you two been playing together?”
I think from 2016 right, that’s 5 years.
“What inspired you to start ‘Altoduo’ and release this new single?”
At the end of 2019, wanted to do an original band tgt for a long time, we like each others’ style and chemistry and memes. Altoduo was named because we play bass and drums, which occupies the lower range of the sound frequencies, and it sounds nice to pronounce. Most of our songs are either emotional, mellow or with certain forms of tension in it because the theme of our songs generally sums up the big/small struggles in life.
“ What’s the story behind ‘insomnia’? “
This single is the 2nd instalment/release from our Revival EP (which was named that because we finally are playing together after a hiatus and that’s our first album). For this single, it started with an improvisation session in 7/4 time sig, and then, later on, we continued writing it with our melodic bassist/mixing engineer John Paul Kwan, and since it sounded mellow yet with tension, and it relates to our lives (we have insomnia), we decided to name it that way
“Do you plan to continue as a duo and work on more music together? “
Yes! For this single and our subsequent EP, we are featuring a second melodic bassist as a key collaborator. We also plan to invite more artists for future collabs while maintaining our musical direction & identity as a duo. We are preparing for our second EP now, probably releasing it nearer to mid-year.
We are so excited to see what the future holds for them and we are honoured to have gotten to know them so early on cause we are so sure nothing but success awaits them in the coming future!
